History: The embryonic version of the club that would become the Brooklyn Dodgers––and hence, later the Los Angeles Dodgers––the Bridegrooms represented Brooklyn in the American Association in 1889, winning the league pennant behind pitcher Bill Caruthers, who won 40 games. The club joined the National League in 1891, moved into Ebbets Field in 1913, and took on the modern “Dodgers” nickname in 1932.
History: Whiskers! This is what the posters proclaimed when advertising an upcoming visit by baseball's bearded barnstorming wonders, who hailed from a small religious colony in Michigan. A visit from the House of David was the highlight of many a town's summer in the first half of the 20th Century.

History: For decades promoter Max Rosner's Bushwicks were the crown jewel of New York's thriving semi-pro baseball scene. They played in their own stadium –– Dexter Park, which was actually located in Woodhaven, Queens –– and took on the greatest traveling teams of the day, such as the Kansas City Monarchs and House of David clubs, and competed against other New York teams in the Metropolitan Baseball League.
