History: The 1959 Cornell Baseball squad's 11-4 win-loss record was the best the Big Red had produced in more than fifty years. The sleeve patch adorned by many College teams in 1959 commemorates the centennial of the first intercollegiate baseball game in the U.S which featured the Williams Ephs vs. Amherst College in Pittsfield, Mass. Amherst won the game by a score of 73-32.

History: Taking their name from the Texas State Capitol in Austin, the Senators won the Texas League title in 1959, defeating Grady Hatton's San Antonio Missions. The Senators featured a 31-year-old Dominican pitcher named Chi-Chi Olivo, a longtime fixture of the Caribbean winter leagues. Olivo's 79 career wins in the Dominican League rank him second all time, behind only his brother, Diomedes, who had 86 career wins.
